Your journey begins as your tour guide describes the day when local ships were dispatched to rescue the victims of the ill-fated RMS Titanic. Gain additional perspective on the event when you pause at the Fairview Cemetery to contemplate the rows of gravestones that mark the final resting place of 121 souls who perished in the North Atlantic Sea. Next, proceed to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which houses a permanent Titanic exhibit. Here, you will have the chance to inspect photographs, wooden artifacts, and the only intact Titanic deck chair in the world. You will also learn about the devastating Halifax Explosion, which occurred just five years after the sinking of Titanic. In 1917, the Mont Blanc, a French ship loaded with munitions, collided with the Belgian Relief ship, Imo, in the Halifax harbor. The resulting explosion leveled the north end of Halifax, killing or injuring thousands. Heart of the Island

The Fortress of Louisbourg was originally settled in 1713. Between 1720 and 1740, defensive walls were constructed around what was then a thriving fishing town. The fort became known as the &ldquo;Gibraltar of the North&rdquo; and the &ldquo;Dunkirk of America,&rdquo; both fitting nicknames for a formidable protector against British ships entering the Saint Lawrence River.&nbsp; In the 1960s, a reconstruction of one-quarter of the fortified town was undertaken, restoring it to its original appearance using French masonry techniques and even original stones. The result is Canada&rsquo;s most ambitious attempt to recall the past relationship between France and the American colonies.&nbsp; Your visit to this living museum will be conducted in two parts, beginning with a guided walk among the restored buildings. If you look closely you may be able to spot a bald eagle or two flying overhead.&nbsp; Once arrived at the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, get ready to enjoy an exclusive &lsquo;behind the scenes&rsquo; tour. You will be split up into smaller groups of 12, and making sure that each group will have the opportunity to participate in this private 30-mins experience. This includes an introduction to the Bell collection and the basics of museum conservation and invited to scrutinize a selection of Bell artifacts. At this museum, discover and learn about the many outstanding accomplishments of the man best known for the invention of the telephone. Bell made remarkable contributions in the fields of medicine, genetics, electricity, sound, and speech, as well as aeronautics and marine engineering. The museum itself is architecturally striking, as its design is based on the tetrahedron form Bell used for his flight test kites.
