The palace itself sits on a small island in the heart of Copenhagen, Slotsholmen, and we will make the most of it is as we tour, what many Danes refers to as &ldquo;The Island of Power&rdquo;. We start off with a visit to the King`s Royal Reception Rooms. The Great Hall offers magnificent settings for state dinners hosted by the King, and in this very hall, take a glimpse of the tapestries telling more than 1,00 years of Danish and international history. As you walk through the palace, Kings and Queens from yesteryear are gazing down on you. No visit to Christiansborg Palace would be complete without seeing the throne room. On the balcony of this room, overlooking Copenhagen, Queen Margrethe II was proclaimed regent of the Danish Realm in 1972, followed by King Frederik X in January 2024. Christiansborg Palace is the third of the Christiansborg&rsquo;s to occupy this prominent location, and before that, it was the location of Copenhagen Castle. The remains of the two other Christiansborg&rsquo;s are still visible on the surface with the stables standing from the first and the Royal Chapel to be the reminder of the second. After touring the shining halls, we will go underground, to see the remains of the very first castle &ndash; or rather fortress &ndash; dating back more than 800 years. Experience the ruins from the castle of Bishop Absalon from 1167. Become acquainted with the story of the place as a medieval fortification, royal residence and seat of absolute power. Learn of the fascinating human fates that are entangled in the ruins. Crossing the court yard, we&rsquo;ll be making our way towards the Royal Stables. Here the horses of the Royal Household have been living since 1740. The stable complex and the two wing buildings are the remains of Christian VI&rsquo;s pompous Baroque palace. When His Majesty the King holds New Year levees and other banquets at Christiansborg Palace, the beautiful white horses are hitched to the Golden State Coach in splendid gala harness, getting ready to convey their regal passenger. The coach is from 1840 and coated with 24-carat gold leaf. Most of the royal coaches are on display at the stables today, however the horses are during the summer kept at a secret location. Walk to the Library Garden, crossing the courtyard of parliament. Here Danes often sees ministers and member of parliament as they enter or leave the palace &ndash; often on bike. Here we will dive a bit into the Danish democracy. The Library Garden is an oasis in the middle of the busy city. Now a charming garden, but it was once a part of the harbour, welcoming ships from the colonies. Today, we still see the hooks on the wall, where ships were moored. Our visit to the &ldquo;Island of Power&rdquo; will be seasoned with a visit to the mighty tower in the middle of the complex. 108 meters tall, this is the highest tower in the inner part of Copenhagen. Here we will indulge the Danish open faced-sandwiches lunch before making our way back to the pier.&nbsp;

The area around Roskilde was once walked by Viking warriors and traders. Travel to the Viking Ship Museum in this ancient town to see the thousand-year-old remains of the five Viking Longboats excavated from the bottom of Roskilde Fjord. Outside, you&rsquo;ll find the Museum Island, an archaeology workshop and, during the summer, a working Viking boatyard where master craftsmen make replicas of Viking-age wooden boats and Longboats, using the very same techniques as their Viking ancestors. A short drive will bring us to the mighty Roskilde Cathedral &ndash; a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Scandinavia&rsquo;s earliest brick Gothic cathedral. With tall spires, the magnificent church is one of Denmark&rsquo;s most important architectural monuments. Today&rsquo;s cathedral dates from the 12th century, but many of its architectural details, such as porches and side chapels, were added in subsequent centuries. Danish monarchs are buried in Roskilde Cathedral, with very few exceptions, all in ornate tombs. It is believed that Harald Bluetooth &ndash; a mighty Viking King &ndash; is buried here too. Keep an eye out for the richly decorated bronze statues, huge frescoes and paintings, and wooden choir stalls carved with reliefs and scenes from Creation to Last Judgment &ndash; all of these bears testament to the importance of this cathedral, overlooking Roskilde Fjord where the Vikings once sailed. After our exploration here, we will journey back to the pier in Copenhagen. &nbsp;

Drag&oslash;r, once a Dutch settlement on the edge of Amager Island, today a charming village with cobble stoned streets, bright yellow houses and a vibrant atmosphere. The old part of the village consists of 17th century houses, lining the narrow and winding cobblestone streets and alleys. Standing on the marina, you might notice a more contemporary landmark; the Oresund Bridge, connecting Denmark and Sweden. The bridge, at the time of construction was the largest suspension bridge in the world. Drag&oslash;r was known by the outside world already in medieval times. It was an international market place for the Hanseatic merchants who came here every year to purchase herrings with which the Sound of &Oslash;resund was abounded. Over the next 200 years Drag&oslash;r developed into a prosperous shipping town. The town boasts of many very well-preserved historical buildings due to the extensive preservation efforts and local legislation, making the town mostly pedestrian in the 1930s. The old part of the town is a cosy, picturesque maze of alleys with yellow painted houses and cobble stoned streets lined with hollyhocks in the springtime. Enjoy a guided stroll through the narrow streets and enjoy vistas of &Oslash;resund between Denmark and Sweden &ndash; and indulge in a Danish lunch at a local venue. From the charming village, the tour will take you on a sojourn towards Orestad district. A powerful member of the Hanseatic League, Gdansk was once the richest Baltic port and as such, a cultural center for art and intellect. World War II took a devastating toll and with resolute determination, its residents rebuilt. Today, it is the center of the world’s amber trade. Be sure to visit the Basilica of St. Mary – the world’s largest brick temple; Royal Road to see the Golden and Green gates; the colorful facades of Long Market; and, Neptune Fountain, a 17th-century symbol of the city.

The most characteristic building and the symbol of Gdansk is the Gdansk Crane. It evolved into its present shape after the fire in 1442-44. This massive gate was built to handle heavy goods and the crane mechanism was also used for installing masts on ships built in Gdansk. The crane equipment was made up of two drum wheels, propelled by the weight of people walking on drum steps. The crane was used in the port for almost five centuries. This is the largest of preserved early port handling equipment in the world. The first prisoners arrived here on 2nd September 1939, exactly 250 Polish citizens and prisoners of war. Just two weeks later, there were around 6,000 prisoners. The camp was initially composed of eight barracks blocks for the inmates and a huge building (the 'kommandantur') for the SS. It was called 'the old camp'. In 1942, the SS began to build a 'new' camp and 30 other barracks were added. In 1943, the Nazis added a crematorium and a gas chamber.&nbsp; Between September 2nd 1939 and May 10th 1945, 127,000 prisoners were registered upon their arrival to the camp. The camp was not liberated until May 9, 1945. Nowadays, the mission of the musem is to preserve the remains of the former Stutthof camp. Start your tour with a short shuttle bus transfer to the Market Square, from where you will take the public ferry to the Islands of Suomenlinna. Once there you will get to walk the beautiful grounds of the islands whilst your guide tells you all about this largest fortification. Suomenlinna was founded in 1748 by the Swedish King and was built as a bastion on six rocky islands in the harbour of Helsinki. The flags of three nations have at various times flown over the fortification.&nbsp; First, Suomenlinna (or Sveaborg as it was then called) defended Sweden for 60 years against Russia, but after it was forced to surrender in 1808 it became a Russian fortification for 110 years. In 1918 the fortress was renamed Suomenlinna and acted as a Finnish garrison until it came under civil administration in 1973. Suomenlinna has always been much more than just a part of Helsinki - it is a city within a city and nowadays about 900 people are living on the island and 350 people work here all year around. For many inhabitants of Helsinki, Suomenlinna is a popular day trip destination. In 1991 UNESCO included Suomenlinna on its List of World Heritage sites. During your walking tour you will see many parts of this fascinating fortress. Many artists have their workshop on these islands, and one of them is the local glass artist &#39;Anna Schroderus&#39;. You will get to meet the artist herself and learn about the history and operation of her glass studio. She will tell you about her profession as a glassblower and designer, the technical properties of glass and the history of glassblowing in a nutshell. Finally, she will blow a small bottle as a demonstration. You will continue your walking tour of the island, after which you stop for a coffee or tea and local pastry and enjoy some free time, before taking the ferry back to the market square, from where your shuttle bus will take you back to your ship or if you prefer you can continue your exploration of the city on your own.

UNESCO Suomenlinna Fortress & Glass Artist Meeting

Your guide will meet you at the pier and introduce you to your Jopo bike. A unisex bicycle without gears and using pedal brakes, the Jopo is a breeze to ride. After making adjustments and listening to safety instructions, you will be ready to cycle into the Finnish capital. As the city is relatively flat, Helsinki is an ideal place to explore by bike. Traveling over mostly dedicated cycling paths, you will encounter views of the city that many visitors never experience. Pass the marina and a residential area before pedaling along the scenic traffic-free waterfront area that leads to Helsinki&rsquo;s main city beach, Hietaranta. Take a break at a popular local outdoor caf&eacute; overlooking the sea. Sip a coffee and enjoy a Finnish cinnamon bun while enjoying the ambiance. Continue along the waterfront to Sibelius Park and pause at one of Helsinki&rsquo;s most popular tourist sites, the monument dedicated to Finland&rsquo;s world-famous composer, Jean Sibelius. Back on your bike, follow your guide through the residential district of T&ouml;&ouml;l&ouml; to the waterfront of T&ouml;&ouml;l&ouml; Bay. Here, you will admire views of the city, as well as enjoy close-up looks at the new Opera House and the decorative wooden villas dating from the 19th century. In the distance, you will see Finlandia Hall, the National Museum and the Parliament as you continue to the eastern side of the city, passing more waterfront parks and mixed residential areas. Arriving at the eastern harbor, stop to appreciate views of Katajanokka Island, which is the summer home of the Finnish Icebreaker fleet and location of the Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral, an architectural marvel boasting 13 golden onion domes. At the Market Square, you will walk your bike to safely enjoy the sights and sounds of one of the city&rsquo;s most popular tourist areas. As you leave the Old City Harbor, stop to gaze at the varying skyline, dominated by the Lutheran Cathedral, City Hall and the Presidential Palace, all the more dramatic with the bustling harbor and market in the foreground. From here you continue to Porvoo, an old town situated at the mouth of River Porvoo. The city was an important trading center as early as the Middle Ages. Upon arrival in Porvoo, you will stop at the Old Bridge from where you will be able to see one of the most photographed views in Finland: the Old Town of Porvoo with a decorative row of red riverside storehouses. Enjoy a guided walking tour followed by free time, after which you continue to Kiala Manor for a lovely three course lunch in beautiful surroundings. Travel back to Helsinki to enjoy a scenic sightseeing of the city&rsquo;s most popular sights, including the Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral, the Presidential Palace, the new Opera House, the National Museum and the Parliament House.
