At Kristiansund, eat the traditional stew, bacalao, from fish caught in local waters, before a relaxing day at sea brings us to Tromso, gateway to the Arctic and land of the midnight sun. Hammerfest fascinates with its mountains and sandy beaches, before we reach Honningsvag, the world’s northernmost city, where the North Cape (Nordkapp) teems with puffins and cormorants. The next day brings us to Alta and the iconic Northern Lights Cathedral. Unwind during a day at sea, before admiring the tiny volcanic island of Jan Mayen. After another sea day, discover the remote communities of Akureyri, in northern Iceland. Reaching the Icelandic fishing town of Isafjordur, take time to soak up its pristine landscapes before we return to Reykjavík for two days’ exploring the vibrant Icelandic capital.

Steeped in Viking history and surrounded by shimmering lakes and jade-green forests, Haugesund is a young, vibrant city easily explored on foot. The region&#39;s tempestuous past can be discovered at the state-of-the-art Viking Planet Digital Museum, while the city&#39;s clutch of world-class art galleries offers a glimpse of contemporary Norwegian life. Haraldsgata – a long, pedestrianized street lined with traditional Norwegian clapboard houses converted into cafés, boutiques and bars – is the place to pick up classic Scandi knitwear and gifts before a seafood lunch on the quayside, overlooking the tranquil Smedasundet Sound.

Norway&#39;s raw coastal beauty is showcased by this port on Vagsoy island, overlooked by Kannestenen rock, which has been moulded by the sea over millions of year into a vast mushroom-like cliff. The gateway to mighty Nordfjord, where rugged peaks rise from ice-blue water, Maloy is a buzzing hub for Norway&#39;s prized seafood exports. Spread across four islands in northern Norway, Kristiansund is both a quaint harbor town and a cultural powerhouse, home to the country&#39;s oldest opera company and host of many art, music, and photography festivals. This vibrant Arctic metropolis is said to be the northernmost city in the world and its attractions come in all shapes and sizes. There&#39;s a zigzag path to the top of Salen Hill for views of the surrounding Finnmark plateau. The globe-shaped UNESCO-listed Struve Geodetic Arc was once used to work out the size of the earth. And the triangular contemporary church, consecrated in the early 1960s, was inspired by the racks used to dry fish across the region (marvel at how sunlight illuminates the stained-glass window behind the altar). But for a real curveball, you can join a camel safari across white-sand beaches – no, this is not a mirage.

Nordkapp, also known as the North Cape is recognized as the northernmost point of mainland Europe and is renowned for its stunning landscapes. It enjoys a very happy placement in the world; at “just” 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) south of the North Pole, Nordkapp is still considered one of the northernmost accessible points in mainland Europe and offers breathtaking views of the Arctic Ocean and surrounding landscapes. The Midnight Sun casts its ethereal glow, illuminating the landscape during the surreal Arctic summer nights. Here, the remoteness is as profound as the beauty. Gaze upon dramatic cliffs that plunge into the frigid waters of the Barents Sea and stand in awe of nature&#39;s grandeur. Wildlife flourishes, from reindeer grazing against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks to flocks and flocks of seabirds soaring through the pristine skies. Embrace the Arctic&#39;s tranquility and the raw majesty of a place where the world seems to touch the heavens.

Many places claim to offer views of the Northern Lights, but few of them have built a cathedral named after the colorful sky-dancing phenomenon or are the site of the world&#39;s first observatory to study them. This red-clapboard town in Norway&#39;s Arctic region also has northern Europe&#39;s largest collection of rock art, etched by ancient hunter-gatherers 7,000 years ago and displayed at its museum, with widescreen views of the fjord as a backdrop. The views of open tundra and rushing river become even more breathtaking on hikes around Alta canyon, or mush along on a dog sled for a taste of the local way of life.

This volcanic island in the Arctic Ocean, more than 600 miles west of mainland Norway, has no permanent residents, just some fulmars bobbing offshore. The starkly beautiful landscape is like a modern artwork: a snow-topped conical volcano (it last erupted in the 1980s), black layer-cake cliffs formed from cooling magma rushing down to black-sand beaches, with acid-green moss and grass the only pop of colour amid the monochrome scenes. The island is on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, and the cinder cones and lava flows all around make this a geologist&#39;s dream.

Situated on one of the most magnificent fjords in Iceland, bounded by snow-capped mountains and gently sloping pastures, the weather here is surprisingly moderate despite being just 60 miles from the Arctic Circle. Charming and historical, here you&#39;ll find over 2,000 species of plants in the Botanical Gardens, which thrive without the benefit of a greenhouse. 

Scenic drive along the picturesque coastline of Eyjafj&ouml;r&eth;ur Fjord to the famous Godafoss Waterfall (Waterfall of the Gods). The name refers to an important historical event that took place in the year 1000 when Icelanders officially became a Christian nation. Your next destination is the GeoSea geothermal sea baths that enable you to enjoy natural surroundings in a unique way with views of the surrounding mountain range, Skj&aacute;lfandi Bay beneath the cliffs, and the Arctic Circle itself on the horizon. The underground geothermal heat and the warm seawater in the infinity pool are full of minerals that will caress your skin and leave you feeling relaxed and reinvigorated. A light lunch in a local restaurant is included. Afterwards, you can sit back and enjoy the scenic drive back to Akureyri and your ship.

This exciting adventure begins with a scenic drive to the base camp in Skagafj&ouml;r&eth;ur Fjord, where we will gear up and have safety instructions before heading down to the river and enjoy your approximately 90 minutes rafting journey through the canyon. On the way, you will have the opportunity to sample hot cocoa from nature&rsquo;s own kettle and the brave ones might even want to try a little cliff jumping. This experience is ideal for those who want to delight in a fun water adventure and the opportunity to explore Icelandic wilderness from the depths of the canyon with its high walls and extraordinary geology. Refreshments are offered during the tour. After the rafting, have a relaxing moment in outdoor hot tubs before enjoying the famous and delicious Icelandic meat soup.

The tastefully designed complex offers bathers a completely natural experience with a relaxing dip in clouds of steam rising from below the earth&rsquo;s surface. After a relaxing soak, drive to Dimmuborgir, a dramatic lava landscape with strange formations, columns, and arches that have been the source of many folktales in Iceland. Stop at a local restaurant for lunch.

Mývatn Hike

Gr&iacute;msey is Iceland&rsquo;s northernmost inhabited territory. The small village with a population of approximately 100 people is mostly dependent on commercial fishing but agriculture and egg collection are also common. The island has been inhabited for a few centuries, although it has been difficult to estimate when exactly the first people settled there. The island is small but rich in resources and on clear days the view is magnificent. At Akureyri Airport, board your plane for a short flight to Gr&iacute;msey Island. If the weather is clear, you will have great views over the tall mountains that line both sides of Eyjafj&ouml;r&eth;ur Fjord. Once Gr&iacute;msey is in sight, you will see beautiful coves, decorated with high basalt columns and steep cliffs. Arriving in Gr&iacute;msey, you will be greeted by a local guide that will take you on a walk around the island acquainting you with the history, culture and nature of the island. Here are unique conditions for bird watching as the extensive bird colonies are said to accommodate at least sixty different species, more than half of which nest on the island.&nbsp; After your brief guided walk, reboard your plane for the short flight back to Akureyri.

Visit Gr&iacute;msey Island, Iceland&rsquo;s northernmost inhabited territory. The island is small but rich in resources - and on clear days, the view is magnificent. &nbsp;

Polar Flight to Grímsey Island

The Eyjafj&ouml;r&eth;ur Fjord is narrow and deep and is perfect for the small RIB boats that depart from Akureyri pier. The RIB boats allow you to get closer to the whales and wildlife than any other boat can. The boats are small and fast which means we can cover a larger area as we search for wildlife. This allows for an increased chance of spotting whales, dolphins and bird life. Like all wild nature experiences, sightings cannot be guaranteed. However, the potential for whale watching from Akureyri is excellent with a 95% success rate for spotting whales. Many species have been sighted here, including blue-fin, humpback, minke and sei whales. &nbsp;

Experience getting up close in a RIB (rigid-hulled inflatable boat) to view the incredible humpback whales of the Eyjafj&ouml;r&eth;ur Fjord, a place of serene beauty and diverse marine life, framed by glacier-carved, snow-capped mountains. &nbsp;

Drive along the coast of Eyjafj&ouml;r&eth;ur Fjord to the Lauf&aacute;s Regional Museum, once a manor farm and a vicarage. The turf farmhouse is built of stone and turf in the traditional Icelandic style and is one of the last of its kind in the country. The house serves as a museum providing insights into farm life in Iceland over the past centuries. Returning to Akureyri, your next stop will be the Akureyri Museum to explore its interesting exhibition on local history, followed by the Nonni Museum, in the old house of the writer J&oacute;n Sveinsson, author of numerous children&#39;s books about the Nonni and Manni brothers. After the museum visits, drive to Hl&iacute;&eth;arfjall mountain for a brief photo stop. Next, head to Akureyri Swimming Pool, from where we will walk to Akureyri&#39;s Church and Artists Alley, with workshops and galleries to visit. Finally, walk back to your ship.

The name refers to an important historical event that took place in the year 1000 when Icelanders officially became a Christian nation.&nbsp; Our drive continues through fertile farmlands until we reach Lake M&yacute;vatn, one of Iceland&rsquo;s natural treasures. The lake is home to tens of thousands of birds, among them a variety of duck species. The area surrounding the lake is of tremendous geological interest. The next stop on our journey is N&aacute;maskar&eth;, a striking geothermal field full of mud-pots, steam vents, sulphur deposits, boiling springs and fumaroles. The experience is otherworldly with incredible colours, steam that rises from the earth and the loud popping of air bubbles in the mud-pots. Close by is Dimmuborgir, a dramatic lava landscape with strange formations, columns and arches that have been the source of many folktales in Iceland. The name means &ldquo;dark fortress&rdquo;, an appropriately mystical name for this peculiar place. A short drive from Dimmuborgir is Sk&uacute;tusta&eth;ir pseudo-craters. The craters were formed by gas explosions when boiling lava flowed over the wetlands near the lake. The craters are a popular site for birdwatchers and are protected as a natural wetland conservation area. This will be our last stop on this incredibly scenic tour before we head back to Akureyri. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.

Drive along Eyjafj&ouml;r&eth;ur Fjord to Go&eth;afoss Waterfall, explore Lake M&yacute;vatn&#39;s birdlife, witness the geothermal wonders of N&aacute;maskar&eth;, and marvel at Dimmuborgir&#39;s eerie lava formations. Conclude with Sk&uacute;tusta&eth;ir pseudocraters, a haven for birdlife enthusiasts.

Jewels of the North

Ringed by dramatic mountains and perched on a narrow fjord-side spit of land, this old trading post&#39;s as remote as they come – yet boasts a trending arts scene. Walk among tin-roofed homes built by salt fish merchants, admire seagoing artifacts and – for some reason – a world-class accordion collection at the Maritime Museum. Discoveries further afield might include splendid Icelandic waterfalls, a pint-sized botanic garden in the tundra, and tiny villages dwarfed by their surrounding peaks.

When you look up to the mountains surrounding &Iacute;safj&ouml;r&eth;ur Fjord, you will notice an interesting indentation in one of the mountains. If you ask the locals to explain this, they might tell you that this &#39;bowl&#39; in the mountain was formed by a glacier, but it is more likely that they tell you what really happened. According to the legend, a huge troll once lived in the area. One day the troll decided to go for a walk in the fjord, but the troll got tired fast, so it took a seat on the tall mountain above the town. The mountain couldn&rsquo;t handle the weight of the massive troll, so a part of the mountainside was squashed, leaving a large bowl-like &#39;throne&#39; in the mountain. The dent is therefore known as the Troll&rsquo;s Throne, even though its formal name is &#39;Naustahvilft&#39;. The Troll&rsquo;s Throne is a popular hiking destination, ascending approximately 738 feet and situated only a few hundred feet from the port. The hiking trail is an ideal mixture of soil, grass, and trodden paths made by sheep. The view over &Iacute;safj&ouml;r&eth;ur town and the picturesque fjord is a great reward for completing your hike.

Ísafjörður Walk

Vigur is a small and unique island, approximately 1.2 miles long and 1,312 feet wide. It is a green oasis in the blue waters of the &Iacute;safjar&eth;ardj&uacute;p Fjord. Countless birds nest during summer on the island, making it a bird watcher&rsquo;s paradise. The family that owns the island and live there are farmers and live off what the island gives them. After an approximately 20-minute boat ride, take a leisurely walk around the island, giving you the perfect opportunity to see an abundance of birds in their natural environment; Eider ducks nest here in great numbers. The farmer protects the nests and is rewarded with down that the ducks pluck from their own chests to shelter their eggs. Some relics of old farming methods are preserved in Vigur, including Iceland&rsquo;s oldest windmill, built in 1840 and used until 1917 for grinding imported wheat from Denmark. The houses also date back to the last century. Viktoria House was erected in Vigur in 1862, made of wood, which was pre-cut into shape in Norway. In , the house was restored by the National Museum of Iceland. The second house was erected by a young priest in 1884, an ancestor of the family living in Vigur today. Prior to heading back to &Iacute;safj&ouml;r&eth;ur, you will be served coffee and cakes in an old mid-19th century cow shed which has been restored into a welcoming reception area. &nbsp;

The Lagoon&rsquo;s aquamarine colored water, the steam, and the lava landscape surrounding it succeed in creating a unique and memorable atmosphere. Here we will relax and enjoy this unique bathing experience. Afterwards we will return to Reykjav&iacute;k for a short city sightseeing tour. On a clear day the route offers extensive view over the city, the bay, and the mountains beyond. Our journey takes us to one of the city&rsquo;s landmark buildings, Perlan (&ldquo;The Pearl&rdquo;). The building&rsquo;s dome consists of reflecting glass panels on a hollow steel frame, surrounded by a viewing platform which extends full circle, offering splendid views over the city. We then drive through the older parts of the city, dominated by the imposing Hallgr&iacute;mskirkja Church whose tall tower is one of Reykjav&iacute;k most recognized landmarks. Bicycle along Reykjavík&#39;s Coast

Reykjav&iacute;k is not only Iceland&#39;s capital city but is also believed to be the location of the first permanent settlement in Iceland. This very informative tour takes visitors on a journey to Iceland&#39;s historical and cultural past. Our cultural tour begins with a visit to the recently renovated National Museum of Iceland. The museum is dedicated to communicating knowledge of Iceland&#39;s cultural heritage from the time of its pioneering settlement in 874 to the present day. From the National Museum we&#39;ll drive to Hallgr&iacute;mskirkja, the cathedral that dominates the Reykjav&iacute;k skyline and is one of its most recognised landmarks. Close to the cathedral is the Einar J&oacute;nsson Museum. J&oacute;nsson (1874-1954) was Iceland&#39;s first sculptor; he was a ground-breaking figure in the local art scene and has had considerable influence on the visual arts in Iceland. Before we return to the pier, we&#39;ll visit the Settlement Exhibition. It is built around archaeological remains that were excavated in central Reykjav&iacute;k. The hall and the wall fragment are now preserved at their original location as the focal point of an exhibition about life in Viking Age Reykjav&iacute;k. Computer technology is used to give an impression of what life was like during the Settlement.

The boats are specially engineered to get us closer and faster to the whales and puffins. These stable and safe boats also allow us to search a bigger area, thus increasing your likelihood of viewing the whales, dolphins and birdlife. After our whale search, sail back to Reykjav&iacute;k, where you will take a ride along the shore of the city for a brief stop at the harbor side of Reykjav&iacute;k&rsquo;s landmark building, Harpa Conference and Concert Hall. After you have returned the boating equipment, board our transfer and head back to the pier and your Crystal ship. Here we will stop for approximately two and a half hours to relax and indulge in the healing waters of the Lagoon.</div> <div class='ewa-rteLine'>The Blue Lagoon owes its existence to a nearby geothermal power plant that uses geothermal seawater from a mile beneath the earth&rsquo;s surface. The water is replenished every 40 hours. The water is warm, mineral rich and is known to soothe and rejuvenate the skin. The aquamarine colour of the water, the steam and the lava landscape surrounding the Lagoon succeed in creating a unique and memorable atmosphere.</div> <div class='ewa-rteLine'>The facilities at the Blue Lagoon are excellent. Eventually you will reach the old harbour where we will make a quick stop. Your next stop will be by the artwork &ldquo;&THORN;&uacute;fa&rdquo;, meaning the Tussock, which was created by artist &Oacute;l&ouml;f Nordal in 2013. The 8m-tall grassy mound was constructed out of 4500 tons of gravel and is one of the biggest artworks ever made in Iceland. It&#39;s crowned by the type of hut that&#39;s used to make har&eth;fiskur (dried fish).</div> <div class='ewa-rteLine'>Leaving the old harbour, you will head towards Hallgr&iacute;mskirkja, the church that dominates the city skyline with its imposing tower.
