After enjoying the multicultural vibe of Valparaíso, we continue to explore Chile at Coquimbo, beloved by locals for its beaches, and Iquique, another sandy stunner that also has a fascinating museum brimming with pre-Columbian artefacts. Peru is next, with stops in Puerto San Martin, Callao for the vibrant capital Lima, and Salaverry in Peru, home to the largest adobe citadel in the Americas predating Spanish rule. Now to Guayaquil in Ecuador, where iguanas roam – a taste of what lies just across the waters in the Galapagos Islands – and then Fuerte Amador, where an overnight stay offers plenty of time to explore nearby Panama City. Next comes the thrilling experience of cruising the Panama Canal, one of the great man-made wonders of the world. We’re bound for the beach in Puerto Limón, Puerto Rico, before a relaxing day at sea takes us to Roatán – this tiny island has the second-biggest coral reef in the world. Explore Mayan treasures in Santo Tomas, Guatemala, and Belize City. Now we cross to Mexico for an overnight in Cozumel, famed for its powder sands and duty-free shops, and a day in Progreso, for tequilas on the malecón and souvenirs in the handicrafts market. A day drifting across the turquoise Caribbean brings us to our final port, lively Fort Lauderdale.

Along with its twin city of La Serena, Coquimbo is known for being one of Chile's most popular seaside resorts with local and international visitors coming to experince its unique blend of culture, cuisine and charisma. Head to Barrio Ingles (English Quarter) for a taste of vibrant market life by day, not forgetting to stop by the popular street-food stalls for a taste of anticuchos (chicken leg skewers), and of course the iconic empanadas. Found about equidistant between the Ecuadorian border and Lima, Salaverry enjoys a happy placement on the Peruvian coastline. Originally a very quiet small fishing village, the fishing boats still set out at sunset, a centuries-old tradition that sustains the town. Salaverry has enjoyed expansion in recent years, notably by the surfing comunity who come here looking for a quiet place to ride the waves. However, surfing is not the town's only claim to fame. Salaverry invites exploration with its blend of history and local life and carries a rich history that stretches back to ancient times. It was originally inhabited by the Moche civilization, known for their remarkable pottery and intricate metalwork.
