Leaving cosmopolitan Vancouver behind, we travel through the awe-inspiring Seymour Narrows to the fishing harbor of Ketchikan, home to an impressive display of 19th-century totem poles. Next is Klawock, gateway to the aptly named Misty Fjords National Park, where you can get up close and personal with Alaska’s famed glacial landscapes, and then Icy Strait Point, where thrills and spills range from whale-watching to the world’s largest ziprider. Sitka brings history with a twist – the onion-shaped dome on St. Michael’s hints at the town’s Russian heritage – before our final highlight, cruising past the Hubbard Glacier, the longest tidewater glacier in North America, watching as huge chunks of ice calve into the sea. Finally, we arrive at Seward, dramatically set between snow-capped mountains and fjords.
