THE MĀORI: A CULTURAL JOURNEY

Said to have been pulled from the ocean by a demigod’s fishhook, New Zealand is a land steeped in myths and legends. The keepers of this lore are the Māori, the original settlers who sailed to New Zealand from the islands of Polynesia more than 1,000 years ago. As we travel to Auckland, we will be joined by a historian who will give several exclusive lectures to World Cruise guests to prepare you for the wonders to come. Upon arrival in Auckland, you’ll then be treated to a very special evening that will immerse you in Māori culture, history and traditions, and promises to give you a whole new perspective on the Land of the Long White Cloud. The evening begins in spectacular style with the rousing ritual of a Māori welcoming ceremony, which will greet you as you arrive at the Auckland Museum. You will then explore the museum’s Māori and Pacific galleries, home to one-of-a-kind artefacts including original full-sized buildings and war canoes. You will then go to Under The Dome, a very special part of the museum not usually open to the public, with spectacular 360-degree views of the Auckland skyline, which you can admire over canapes and cocktails. Before dinner, you’ll be treated to mesmerizing Māori dance performances, and then between courses there will be music from our esteemed pianist plus a string quartet from the Auckland Philharmonia. Take a turn around the dancefloor yourself before returning to the ship, to dream of gods, warriors, and voyagers.

It’s time to party, Bollywood style, at this electrifying celebration of India's blockbuster movies, music and dance. The glitz, the glamor – Bollywood is rooted in history and interwoven with cultural and religious themes, yet its touches of magic and heart-aching romance has captured the imagination of a 21st-century audience across the world. You will love the variety of experiences on offer, from sampling Indian flavors to trying henna painting, plus bangle-making and admiring the country’s latest fashions. And the setting is superb; it all takes place in the beautiful Astor Ballroom at prestigious The St. Regis Mumbai. The climax of the event is a cocktail reception followed by a gala dinner and showstopping performances by amazing dancers and musicians. All too soon it will be time to head back to the ship, but you’ll be inspired to float away to the sweetest of dreams.
